
I mean, I have no doubt that Stine was working 24/7 at this point and was certainly capable of composing a Fear Street every month. The official stance of Stine’s publishers was always that Stine wrote all of the Fear Street books and that his wife served as editor, but the news that ghostwriters were used should not be surprising. Perrotta, of course, is in a phase of his career where it’s unlikely that he’ll ever need to ghostwrite anything again, and that’s maybe why he’s the only Fear Street ghostwriter to break his non-disclosure agreement.

I can’t assess this one normally for a few very different reasons: 1) it was my very first Fear Street-back when I was 9-and I pretty much thought it was the best book I’d ever read back then, 2) it is the only Fear Street book that’s been verified as having been ghostwritten, and 3) said ghostwriter was Tom Perrotta, acclaimed author of Election, Little Children, and The Abstinence Teacher.
